Take Part in our first Writing Competition!

This is the York Liberal Jewish Community’s first ever writing competition.   The prize?   Glory, kudos and all proceeds to go the charity* of the winners’ choice! The winning entries will also be published in the YLJC newsletter and on our website.

Subject: Social Action!You can write about any social action issue that you feel strongly about, e.g. homelessness, refugees, food banks, etc.

Entry is open to all and there are two categories:

Adults (aged 14+): Short story (maximum 1000 words)

Poem (maximum 30 lines)

Children (aged 13 or under): Short story (maximum 1000 words)

Poem (maximum 30 lines)

All entries will be submitted anonymously to our judge Dr Lisa Peschel – a lecturer in the department of Theatre, Film and Television at the University of York. She has been researching theatrical performance of the Terezín/Theresienstadt ghetto since 1998 and her articles on survivor testimony and scripts written in the ghetto have appeared in Czech, German and Israeli journals. She will choose a winner from each of the two categories.
