Five years on from leading – on 14thJune 2014 – the first Shabbat (Sabbath) morning service in York for forty years, Rabbi Danny Rich, the Chief Executive of Liberal Judaism – one of the most senior Rabbis in the country – returned to lead our May service.

Rabbi Rich leads one of York’s first Jewish services for forty years

Since that first service the 100-strong York Liberal Jewish Community has become established as a key component of York’s vibrant faith landscape, holding regular services, festival celebrations, conversions, marriages, baby namings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, and even the world’s first gender-neutral B’nei Mitzvah.

This service – co-led by York’s own student Rabbi, Gabriel Webber – also included the welcoming into the community of two more Jews by choice, as well as a very special talk by Inspector Kevin Kelly, leader of an operational firearms team and Road Crimes Unit in North Yorkshire, as well as a spokesperson for the Jewish Police Association.
