Summer is hopefully (weather permitting) just around the corner; vaccine availability is increasing and COVID restrictions are easing. With so much optimism, it is natural to ask the question: when can we all get together and when will physical services return?
The initial plan, weather permitting, is to hold an outdoor Shabbat morning service on Saturday 3 July 2021, followed by a picnic and social time in a York park, to celebrate Gabriel’s time with us before he leaves and also to celebrate YLJC’s 7th birthday. Please hold this date! Then potentially in August to possibly hold another smaller get together, depending on COVID restrictions.
As for the High Holidays, we would love to be able to hold a physical Rosh Hashanah Seder, but this depends on COVID guidance at the time. We will be following Liberal Judaism advice to determine if physical services can be held or if it is best to hold High Holiday services online and will also depend on Rabbi availability. We will update you as further information on the Rosh Hashanah services on 6/7 and Yom Kippur services 15/16 September becomes available.
Whilst we would obviously love to be able to get together and resume our community activities in person soon, we do have to follow Government and Liberal Judaism advice regarding all the risks and restrictions, which will be a considerable amount of work to minimise COVID risk and especially difficult as we do not have our own premises. Your Committee is working hard behind the scenes looking at options to try to achieve this and will update you when we are able to.
Please check this website, watch for emails from York Liberal Jewish Community, and join the YLJC Facebook page for regular updates as well as wider issues arising.
With very best wishes form Lilian and the rest of the YLJC Committee.
