Our next Shabbat morning service will be held on Saturday 20th January at 11am at the Friargate Meeting House. It will led by Rabbi Dr Deborah Kahn-Harris together with our Student Rabbi for 5778, Gabriel Webber.
For the second month in a row the service will incorporate a Bat Mitzvah, this time for Madelaine Gillis.
It will also include admissions ceremonies for two of our members, Shannon Kirshner and Robin Mumford, to mark their formal conversion to Judaism.
The service will be followed by a kiddush for all attendees, generously provided by Madelaine’s mum, Amanda.
It will be proceeded at 10am by one of our irregular discussions on York’s ritual to consider whether Jewish ‘status’ should have any role in determining participation in our service. This will be in the Quiet Room at the back of the meeting house on the ground floor. Please do join us to share your thoughts on this important issue
Also our new Cheder term, led by Lauren Keiles and Orly Askew, will start at 10am. It will finish at 12.30pm to coincide with the end of the service. If you would like your children to attend by haven’t yet registered please email email@example.com or simply turn up on the day.
(This month, children who are approaching B’nei Mitzvah are encouraged to stay in the service to join Madeliene’s celebrations.)
