The York Liberal Jewish Community’s barbecue, middle eastern food and car boot sale on 28th July has raised an amazing £623.83 to provide funds for dental care for homeless people in the City – well exceeding our planned target.
Imagine the agony of trying to sleep rough with raging toothache. This is the very obvious problem that became apparent to the YLJC social action team, led by Tina Anderson, when handing out food to rough sleepers – several told us they could only eat certain foods, given the state of their teeth.
Obtaining NHS dental treatment is very difficult and rough sleepers are in any case reluctant to go to dental surgeries. The Spurriergate Centre offers various services to the homeless: foot care, doctor, vet for street dogs.
The funds raised by YLJC have already exceeded the £400 needed to pay for a drop-in dental care session at the Spurriergate Centre, and we hope to raise the additional £180 for a further session before the end of the year..
Thanks to all for your amazing support. (Further donations to: email@example.com)
