Founded in 2014, the York Liberal Jewish Community holds the only regular Jewish services in the city as follows:
Shabbat Morning: First Saturday of each month at 11am
Shabbat Evening: Third Friday of each month at 6pm
Check out our events page for further information on our next services
Our services follow the Liberal tradition, with men and women participating on an equal basis and prayers in English and Hebrew. In addition, evening services tend to include a lot of singing in Hebrew.
We are extremely lucky to be being supported by Liberal Judaism, who ensure we have regular rabbinic support, not just for our Shabbat morning services but also for High Holy Days, festivals, lifecycle events and our term time adult education course, Judaism 101. Our Friday night services and children’s cheder (religion school) are led by community members.
We are self-run so while anyone and everyone is welcome to attend, those willing to get involved and help with organising and hosting events are particularly welcome. Our membership fees are amongst the cheapest in the UK.

We are a self-funding, not-for-profit organisation. If you would like to see Judaism continue to flourish in York click here to join us, or become a friend of YLJC today.
Lifecycle Events:
We are delighted to be able to support our members and their families at the key moments in their lives: the birth of a child, a bar, bat or b’nei mitzvah, an affirmation, a marriage or a death and burial.
We are also able to offer the same support to non-members for an additional fee.
